Each year the St. Louis Chapter of EWGA recognizes a member who had a disastrous or hilarious or extraordinary experience in their golf life in the preceding season and awards them the Golden Golf Club Award at the End of Year Party. Our 2011 recipient is long-time member Faye Siegel.
In June, Faye won Low Gross in Fourth Flight at the Chapter Championship Tournament at Far Oaks Golf Course, allowing her to advance to the Eastern Midwest Semi-Final Tournament in mid-August. The Semi-Final Tournament was held on the very difficult Cattails at Meadowview Golf Club in Kingsport, Tennessee. Faye again rose to the challenge and won her flight, qualifying to play in the National Final Tournament in Palm Desert, California.
But a couple of weeks before the Finals, Faye suffered a serious cut to her pinkie finger on her right hand requiring surgery to repair tendons–bringing her golf season to an abrupt end. Further, Faye is a professional clarinetist and needs all 10 fingers to play. Fortunately, the surgery was successful. And though she missed playing in the final championship tournament, she explained that she was becoming proficient in playing the trumpet left-handed.
Congratulations to Faye for overcoming adversity and injury with good spirits and humor. She is a worthy heir of such a prestigious award
